Hey everyone! My name is Jennie McCowan and I am so excited to be here at Oak Pointe Elementary. I was born and raised in a small town called Landrum, SC. After I graduated high school, I attended the University of South Carolina (GO GAMECOCKS!) and received my degree in special education. I taught in Spartanburg county for 2 years and then we moved back to Columbia for my husband to start medical school at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
A little bit about me, I love anything outdoors such as hiking and camping! I used to be a yoga instructor, so I love embedding yoga into our movement breaks and mindfulness. I absolutely love to travel and spend my summers in Uganda teaching at a special needs primary school. I find learning about other cultures fascinating and love to go and advocate for children and adults with varying intellectual abilities.
I have been teaching in a self-contained classroom for 7 years now! This is my 5th year in Lexington Richland 5 and I absolutely love it! I worked at Ballentine Elementary for the past 4 years and am very excited to be at Oak Pointe this year. Working with children is a passion of mine and I am so excited to get to know all of you and work together to make sure your children are getting everything they need to be successful learners. I can’t wait for an amazing year!!!!
My name is Kristen Green and I’m so excited about this upcoming school year. I was born and raised right here in Columbia, SC. I was a Kindergarten assistant for five years in Lexington District 1 before moving over to Lexington District 5 where I have been the last 3 years.
A few fun facts about me, I have 4 dogs that I absolutely love. Two labs, one beagle mix and a boxer. I love to travel & spend time with family and friends. A few of my hobbies include Photography, Traveling & planning events. I currently spend much of my free time up at The Southern Strutt where I plan events for the dancers & families, take pictures of the kids, & run their social media. I am a huge Alabama ( ROLL TIDE!) & USC ( Go Gamcocks!) fan! I spend most of my Saturdays attending college football games.
I can’t wait for an amazing year with your children!!
