Mrs. Bland

Hi! My name is Kay Bland and I am excited to welcome your child into our class this year. I am entering my 33nd year of teaching in Lexington/Richland School District Five! I am especially thankful to have the opportunity to teach at River Springs Elementary- GO NAVIGATORS!! I look forward to coming to work everyday because of the positive, supportive and loving staff members, students and families at River Springs. I am happy going to work everyday knowing the exciting things I will teach my students and what they will teach me. I work to build a learning environment that is structured, positive, engaging, and encouraging. Your child's happiness and success are very important to me.

I am a proud graduate of Lexington/Richland School District Five! I attended Seven Oaks Elementary, Leaphart Elementary, Irmo Middle, and Irmo High. I graduated from Columbia College with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  I started my teaching career  at Dutch Fork Elementary. I moved to River Springs Elementary when it was built in 1997.  I have taught four-year-old kindergarten, third grade, and second grade and I feel very blessed to be a part of such a rewarding profession.

My husband, Don, and I have been married for 29 years. We are very blessed to have a son-Kevin and a daughter-Kelly. Both are graduates of Dutch Fork High School and they both are graduates of the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks!! We have three dogs-all are dachshunds (Copper, Coco and Cooper). We are members of Rivercrest Presbyterian Church. We are blessed to have so many close friends in this community. I feel it is an honor and a privilege to be able to live, raise my children, and work in such wonderful community and an outstanding school district.

I look forward to a wonderful second grade year with your child! Please call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
