Ms. Kasey Revels
Greetings!! My name is Kasey Revels and I am the new Visual Art teacher at Nursery Road Elementary School-Arts Magnet! I am entering into my second year of teaching and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be working with the amazing Champions at NRES-AM. I am engaged to a wonderful and hardworking man, Ian, and we are expecting our first child, a son, in October of 2019.
I graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina with a B.F.A in Art Education in December of 2017. In the Fall of 2017, I completed my student teaching placement here at NRES and then returned the following January for an exciting two week Artist Residency in ceramics. As a graduate of USC's Art Education program, I have an extensive background in Art History, Drawing, Painting, Figure, Printmaking, Bookmaking, Murals and collaborative works, Sculpture, Fabric Arts, Jewelry Making, Media, Wood Working, and my area of concentration: Ceramics (with a focus on functional thrown pots and bowls.)
In March of 2018, I was hired full-time as the Visual Art teacher and have been working diligently to provide our students with the best foundation in the Arts possible. Students who attend NRES-AM will be exposed to a variety of art styles, processess, and materials with a growth mindset emphasis on process over product. As the first and only Arts Magnet school porgram in District Five, we strive to lead the Midlands in Art Education by providing our students with unique Arts opportunites not offered at any other Public Elementary School. Our newest additions to the program are five table top pottery wheels that will be utilized during our ceramics unit in January. Students will learn basic throwing skills and will be able to throw their own cup or bowl to be glazed in our full sized electricd kiln.
Each year, NRES-AM participates in two Art shows. One is held annually at the District Office, while the other is held at Irmo High School in the spring. More information on the dates and times of these shows will go out as those events approach. This year, we will also submit to the juried show at the State Fair in 2019 for the first time to compete against other schools for awards. Not all work submitted to the State Fair is accepted, but I have every ounce of faith that our Champions will steal the show next fall!
If you have any questions or need to reach out me, my email address is listed below! Please feel free to join your student's class at any point in the year and be sure to attend the Cultural Arts Festival at the end of the year!
