School District Five students earn awards at SC Beta Club convention

IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five students earned numerous awards at this year’s SC Beta Club convention held virtually.


"These students are amazing and there seems to be no limit as to what they can achieve,” Dutch Fork High School Beta Club advisor Kelly Eckstrom said. “All these awards are the result of the effective teachers throughout our district. But a lot of the credit belongs to the parents of these students." 


School District Five students competed statewide against members of other high school Beta Clubs and won top finishes in the following categories:


Black and White Photography, Division II

2nd Place: Katie Barfield (Chapin High)


Language Arts, 11th Grade

2nd Place: Alexander Downs (Dutch Fork High)


Language Arts, 12th Grade

2nd Place: Ramsey McIntyre (Chapin High)


Math, 11th Grade

1st Place: Carolyn Chen (Dutch Fork High)


Math, 12th Grade

2nd Place: Ceon Park (Dutch Fork High)


Problem Solving Team, 9th Grade

3rd Place: Aeryn Downs, Seigo Maeda, Shailynn Weekley, Andy Yang (Dutch Fork High)


Quiz Bowl Team

3rd Place: Carolyn Chen, Alexander Downs, Paul Kupfer, Mya Tran (Dutch Fork High)


Science, 9th Grade

2nd Place: Andy Yang (Dutch Fork High)


Science, 10th Grade

1st Place: Ebonee Davis (Dutch Fork High)

These students are eligible to compete at Beta National Convention in Disney June 25-28, 2021.
