School District Five executes design and construction contracts for new elementary school
IRMO– – School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties announced plans to execute design and construction contracts for the new elementary school on Amicks Ferry Road.
The decision comes after the School District Five Board approved two motions at its Dec. 10 meeting, authorizing the district’s superintendent to review both the Design Services contract and Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) contract for the new school. Both motions authorized “the Superintendent to confirm acceptability of all contract terms with the District’s counsel.” The motions also would allow the superintendent to “return the matter to the agenda for a special-called meeting for further approval.”
“In consultation with the district’s legal counsel, Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton has determined that executing the contracts presented to and approved by the School Board is in the district’s best interest,” said Board Chairman Robert Gantt. “It was determined that no special-called meeting is needed or required, and our superintendent will be proceeding to complete the execution of the contract.”
Gantt added that the contract amendments proposed by school board members were discussed during executive session on Dec. 10 with the entire board prior to the vote approving execution of the contracts.
“Our charge and our commitment is to ensure that the public is informed throughout the process,” said Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton. “We value the input of everyone as we are building for the future of School District Five and the future of our students.”
