Congratulations Dr. Lofton!

"We are happy to announce that Dr. Michael Lofton has been named the SCASA Secondary Principal of the Year," said Beth Phibbs, Executive Director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. “He is an exceptional leader who leads by example and encourages the students at Spring Hill High School to achieve at high levels."

Lofton is the founding principal of Spring Hill High School and is entering his sixth year as leader of the all-choice, all-magnet public high school.  He moved to South Carolina in 2002 and joined the administration team at Dutch Fork Middle School as an assistant principal where he remained for eight years.  In 2010, Dr. Lofton was named principal of Chapin Middle School, where he served for two years before taking on his role at Spring Hill.

During the event, Spring Hill High School student Michelle Strom read her letter of recommendation to the SCASA selection committee, stating that she's happy to ride the rollercoaster of high school at Spring Hill alongside her principal. In addition to being named the state principal of the year for SCASA, Lofton has been named the 2018 Magnet Schools of America (MSA) National Principal of the Year.

“It just means the world to me to be recognized for the work that we have done at Spring Hill,” Lofton said.  “We have been open for six years now and it is just a team effort of our teachers, our students, our families and all the support staff and administrators of this place.”
