School District Five high school named among the top 100 public high schools in the U.S.


IRMO – Spring Hill High School has been selected one of the top 100 public high schools in the country by a new national ranking system.


The Lexington-Richland School District Five high school ranks number 70 out of 100 and is one of two schools in South Carolina on the list by online rating site  Spring Hill is a comprehensive all-choice, all-magnet, public high school that offers a variety of challenging courses at a variety of levels including College Prep, Honors and Advanced Placement.  Schools were ranked based on data from the National Center for Education Statistics.


“I am so proud of our Spring Hill High School family,” said principal Dr. Michael Lofton.  “This is a well- deserved recognition for the hard work and dedication that has created an amazing spirit of community and the Spring Hill Way.”


Spring Hill High School was named a Magnet School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America in 2018 and also ranked the third best high school in the state by U.S. News and World Report.  The school is a recognized Project Lead the Way school and a leading provider of STEM education curriculum.


“The unique culture of Spring Hill High School blends together students and families from across School District Five,” said Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton.  “Their laser-focus on student achievement, instructional practices and student leadership opportunities continues to attract visitors and awards.  We congratulate the Spring Hill family for their continued commitment to pursuing excellence and for being a beacon of a magnet innovation.”


The Career Pathways Magnet School offers five focus programs to students from grades 9-12 including: Engineering, Entertainment, Entrepreneurial, Environmental Studies and Exercise Science academies.  Through these academies, students are immersed into high tech, real-world environments which develop core knowledge, ignite imagination and make learning relevant by using themed standards-based curriculum.


“Because Spring Hill is an all-magnet school that draws students from all over the district, I think this is a wonderful testament to our entire system and to our magnet programs,” said Sara Wheeler, School District Five’s magnet director.
