COVID Notification: CES announces plans for first day of school
Chapin Elementary School will proceed with plans for September 8, and welcome all students in Cohort A to join us in-person on the first day of school for students in our district. This action is in accordance with the advice of district health officials and the protocols of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).
On Tuesday, September 1, officials at the school were notified that a university intern tested positive for COVID-19. Per established protocol, all areas of the building that the individual used in the past several days were closed to allow for thorough cleaning and disinfecting of spaces.
The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 and all other impacted staff members will not be allowed to return to school until the quarantine period has expired. No students have been quarantined due to the positive case, per the guidelines of SCDHEC.
Our school and district, in partnership with SCDHEC, have established protocols for responding to positive cases of COVID-19, for notifying staff and families when positive cases are reported, and for returning staff and students to school after a positive case. Please visit www.lexrich5.org/20-21reentry for more on these protocols, and do not hesitate to contact the school for any questions or concerns.
“We are excited to welcome all our students on September 8, whether in-person or online,” said Chapin Elementary Principal Jess Hutchinson. “And we look forward to partnering with our families and staff to make the school year a safe and successful one.”
