Back to School Information: Visitor Protocols & Tardy Arrival/Early Departure of Students

As we approach the start of school for students, School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties has been providing information, videos and updates to help our staff and families prepare. We aim to share factual information in a timely manner, as it becomes available. Visit our reentry website at, and email us at for answers to your questions.

Parent/Vendor School Visitor Protocols

School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties will limit the number of visitors in schools and front office areas, in response to COVID-19. The following guidelines have been implemented to help ensure the safety of our students and staff during the school day.

  • Parents/guardians are asked to call schools and schedule appointments with guidance counselors, administrators or other staff, when possible.
    • After scheduling an appointment, a link for an electronic check-in process will be provided. A badge also will be printed at their appointment time, and the parent/guardian will be able to proceed to their appointment location with little to no wait. Valid identification will still be required and verified.
  • Late (tardy) arrival and early departure notes for all students should be submitted to the school’s attendance clerk electronically via email.
    • Students leaving school early will be called to the front office at the time on the note (email). The parent/guardian should remain in their vehicle until they are contacted by front office staff. Masks should be worn before entering the building, and proper identification will be required for parents/guardians.
  • Please note that unscheduled early student pick up may require wait time.
    • We know that emergencies happen and that some student early departures can not be planned or scheduled. Our staff will work with families during these emergency situations to release students as quickly as possible, while maintaining safety procedures and protocols.
  • Vendors will receive badges and be asked to follow the district’s safety measures.
    • Masks and other appropriate PPE will be required for all vendors.

General Front Office Safety Protocols

Safety is our top priority. We ask that visitors to our front offices observe the following measures to help ensure the safety of our staff and students:

  1. Visitors, who do not have scheduled appointments, will be asked to call the front office and wait in their vehicle until they receive a callback to safely enter a school or office site. This ensures social distancing and the safety of guests and staff in our front office spaces. Signage, with office contact numbers, will be posted at school and office sites. School contact information can also be found online at
  2. As visitors await entry, we ask that they review the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s COVID symptoms guidelines. Visitors should not enter schools and/or offices if they have a confirmed case or symptoms of COVID-19.
  3. School District Five has a mask requirement for staff and students. Visitors should wear masks before entering school and office buildings.
