Back to School Information: School Meals/Meal Pickup Information
School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties is releasing information regarding meal distribution for students for the 2020-2021 school year. Schools will also offer free meals to all students in School District Five Sept. 8 through Dec. 31, due to a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) waiver extension providing free breakfast and lunch to students nationwide.
Students in the district will also have the opportunity to pick up meals on Wednesdays for their virtual or distance learning days. Pick up will be located at several sites throughout the district, including bus delivery locations. When classes resume in School District Five on September 8, students will be learning in either a hybrid model or in the district’s all virtual Flexible Innovative Virtual Education (FIVE) model.
School Meal Sites
The district will serve 5-day meal supplies at three school sites. (These locations are designed for FIVE student meal pick up and will serve five-days worth of breakfast and lunch items to students age 18 and under. Hybrid students are encouraged to visit bus delivery sites, which will serve three-day meal portions, but can also visit school sites if needed.)
Chapin High School (bus loop) - 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Dutch Fork High School (bus loop) - 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Irmo High School (bus loop) - 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Bus Meal Delivery Sites
Several bus delivery locations will be offered district-wide. (These sites are designed for Hybrid students and will serve 3-day meal supplies only. Times and locations are subject to change.)
*FIVE and hybrid students can receive meals at either bus or school locations. Note: Five-day food supplies will only be available at school locations (CHS, DFHS, and IHS). Three-day meal supplies will be provided at bus deliver locations, and staff will check rosters for students.
The USDA announced that it will extend its food program waivers through Dec. 31, providing the meals for schools nationwide to provide free meals to students learning both virtually and in-person.
Though students are not required to be present at feeding sites, parents will be required to show their students' ID cards, if they have them. If they do not have them, they will be required to sign their name and list their children’s names in order to receive the meals. Per the guidelines of the federal USDA waiver, these steps are taken to maintain the integrity of the program, while providing flexibility for parents.
“We encourage parents to apply for free and reduced meal benefits, despite the waiver extension,” Bedenbaugh said. “This will ensure that they are prepared for when the waiver ends.”

The online application system allows your student’s application to be processed as quickly as possible. The district encourages families who need this service to apply so they will have it when the federal waiver ends at the end of the year.
