School District Five Board approves 2020-2021 school year calendar

The Lexington-Richland School District Five Board of Trustees unanimously approved the calendar for the 2020-2021 school year during its meeting on Monday, Feb. 24.

The calendar has school beginning for students on Aug. 19, 2020 and ending on June 4, 2021. The district will have a Fall Break again during the 2020-2021 school year:  Oct. 30 will be a student/teacher holiday, while schools and offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 2 and Tuesday, Nov. 3 (Election Day).

“Producing the calendar involves balancing requirements from the state, as well as input from our advisory groups, including parents, faculty, staff and community members,” said Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton. “We are grateful for the annual input of our parents and other stakeholders, who help ensure the calendar would best suit the needs of students, staff and our School District Five community."

Other notable calendar features include:

  • Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 25-27, 2020
  • Winter Break: Dec. 21, 2020 - Jan. 1, 2021*

(*December 21 and December 22 are work days for 240-day employees)

  • Spring Break: April 5 - April 9, 2021

While half days have previously been offered at the end of the school year, they will be distributed throughout the school year during the 2020-2021 school year. Half days for students include Dec. 18 (the last school day before winter break), April 2, 2021 (the last school day before spring break), and June 4,2021 (the last day of school for students).  Possible severe weather make-up days are also included in the calendar that was approved by the Board.
